Marvel: After 10 years, this Avengers villain is about to return

Following the return of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, another actor will return to the Marvel Universe, but this time without changing roles. Indeed, we learn through Diversity That the evil Ultron will return.

James Spader will reprise his role as the evil AI from Avengers: Age of Ultron for Marvel Studios’ upcoming Vision series, with Paul Bettany also set to return as Vision. So it will be a duel of cars.

What is Vision?

Terry Matalas (Star Trek: Picard) will serve as executive producer and showrunner on the currently untitled series, which is expected to debut in 2026. Although Vision technically died in Avengers: Infinity War, he was resurrected twice in the WandaVision series. 2021, first as a spectral creature created (and then destroyed) by magic, then as a ghostly white robot with no memory of the past.

Return of Ultron definitely poses problems for Vision, as the two characters have a long history. Ultron created Vision’s original synthetic body to house his AI, but the Avengers stopped him and placed Tony Stark’s AI assistant JARVIS inside, creating Vision.

At the end of Age of Ultron, Vision confronts and appears to destroy the last robot containing Ultron’s consciousness, but this moment happens off-camera. News of James Spader’s return confirms that at least one version of Ultron survives.

What can we expect from Vision?

It is not known how Ultron will return to the series. For Age of Ultron, James Spader did the role through motion capture, but that process remains an expensive proposition for a TV series. We remember that this same approach to transforming Tatiana Maslany into She-Hulk in her She-Hulk: Lawyer series cost Marvel an estimated $25 million per episode… to no more than mixed results.

The Vision series, which will begin in England in 2025, is Marvel’s first new live-action series in nearly two years. This will be James Spader’s fifth series after Blacklist, The Office (8 seasons), Boston Justice and The Practice. Is this return to Ultron’s shell a good idea? Give your opinion in the comments.
