Anne Hidalgo repeated the feat days before the Olympics
One day before the start of the Paris 2024 Paralympics, the mayor of the host city, Anne Hidalgo, took a dip in the Seine this Tuesday morning (27).
Cleaning the river was one of the themes of Hidalgo’s candidacy and one of the Olympic legacies left in Paris.
On social media, Anne Hidalgo shared the moment, saying that swimming in the Seine will be part of the Parisian summer of 2025:
“From next year, bathing in the Seine will become an obligatory part of the Parisian summer!” – published.
The mayor’s first dive took place on July 17, nine days before the start of the Olympic Games, to demonstrate that the promise to make the river swimmable had been kept.
The cleanliness of the Seine was criticised at the Olympics, after the triathlon had to be postponed by a day due to the presence of the bacterium E. coli in the waters. In addition, Belgian athlete Claire Michel was infected with the bacteria after the race, requiring hospitalization.
