This Sunday morning (1), Gabrielzinho competed in the qualifications of the 150 m medley, in the SM3 category of the Paralympic Games. The Brazilian finished 4th, which in itself would be an achievement, since with this position the swimmer qualified for the final of the race. However, the biggest celebration came for his time. The native of Minas Gerais completed the course in 3:15.06 and broke the world record for swimmers in the SM2 category.
The previous record, twice, was held by Gabrielzinho. In 2022, the Minas Gerais native clocked 3:35.44 at the CT Paralimpico, in São Paulo, and set the category record. In 2023, the swimmer made his mark at the Para Swimming World Series in Sheffield, England, when he clocked 3:23.83. Finally, Gabrielzinho was the only athlete from the SM2 category to compete in the SM3 race and, as mentioned above, he broke his own record and the world record for the category. This achievement only shows the great evolution of Gabriel Araújo year after year.
Now, the Brazilian will compete today, at 14:20, in the SM3 final of the 150m medley. The duel will be against Grant Patterson (Australia), Josia Tim Topf (Germany), Umut Unlu (Turkey), Arnulfo Castorena (Mexico), Marcos Zarate (Mexico), Daniel Ferrer (Spain) and Emmanuele Marigliano (Italy). Who knows, maybe Gabrielzinho will surprise and leave his mark again.
