Paris – The current world runners-up, Jane Karla and Reinaldo Charão lost in the quarterfinals of the mixed team tournament of the open archery complex at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. They fell to Iranians Fatemeh Hemmati and Hadi Nori 153 to 151, this Monday (02), and said goodbye to the possibility of an unprecedented medal in this sport.
Jane and Reinaldo finished fifth in the ranking round, played on the first day of competition, and are expected to begin their participation in the knockout stage from the round of 16. They were supposed to face Maria del Pilar Riveros/Diego Quesada of Costa Rica, who had been ranked 12th in the initial round, but their opponents withdrew from the competition and the Brazilians automatically secured qualification.
Quarter-finals
In the quarterfinals they met Hemmati, silver medalist in the individual event, and Nori, who had ranked fourth in the ranking phase, with only two points more than Jane and Reinaldo. On that occasion the Brazilians scored 1,376 points, while the Iranians 1,378. The duel, therefore, did not have a very clear favorite.

The Brazilians recovered in the second half, also resulting almost perfect (39/37), and reducing the difference to one point. The third final ended in a tie at 38/38 and the decision was postponed to the final part.
With the elimination of the pair, Jane and Reinaldo say goodbye to the Paralympics. Jane fell in the quarterfinals of the individual competition – the best result for the country so far -, while Reinaldo lost in the first round. Brazil will still be able to count on Luciano Rezende in the knockout phase of the men’s open recurve individual tournament. He will compete on Wednesday (04), starting at 4:51 (Brasilia time).
