The Lord of the Rings: Orcs series is controversial

Each season of Rings of Power has its share of controversy! Since its first season, The Lord of the Rings series has come under fire from internet user groups for casting actors of diverse backgrounds in the roles of elves or dwarves.

The actors of the series became the target of Internet users

Controversy grew, although Tolkien specialists argued that this choice did not conflict with the consistency of JRR Tolkien’s novels. Several cast members of the series have also experienced waves of cyberbullying on social media, attacks that have also affected Morphid Clarke, Galadriel’s translator.

The new season of Rings of Power began airing on Prime Video on August 29. Several netizens were outraged (sic) about the presence of orc women and children.

Tolkien, a difficult work to analyze

In social networks, anti-virginity and anti-wake excesses were soon reported. However, once again, specialists were able to provide official evidence that this detail does not betray Tolkien’s work, on the contrary. As expert videographer Faustea points out, Tolkien continually developed his world over the years. Thus, the personality of orcs changed significantly from their first appearance in his novels to his most recent writings, which were published posthumously over an impressive period. History of Middle Earth (12 volumes, most of which are unpublished in France).

In Tolkien’s writings, the exact origin of the creatures was never established. Although Uruks are descendants of Elves, Orcs seem closer to men. Their description in the books brings many nuances to the subject of their nature, and therefore it is this aspect that the series tried to portray.

Rings of Power Season 2 episodes can be seen every week exclusively on Prime Video.
