“The organization that defends women victims of sexual violence, Me Too Brasil, confirms, with the consent of the victims, that it has received complaints of sexual harassment against the Minister of Human Rights Silvio Almeida. They have been assisted through the organization’s service channels and have received psychological and legal support,” it wrote in a statement.
According to the organization, the victims “encountered difficulties in obtaining institutional support to validate their complaints. Therefore, they authorized the confirmation of the case to the press.”
The minister denies
In an official statement, Silvio Almeida denied the accusations and clarified that the accusations have no evidence. He also explained that he will forward the case so that a “thorough investigation” can be carried out.
“I absolutely vehemently repudiate the lies that are told against me. […] All complaints must be material. However, what I perceive are absurd conclusions with the sole intention of harming me, erasing our struggles and histories and blocking our future. […] Every complaint must be investigated with all the rigor of the Law, but to do so it is necessary that the facts are exposed to be investigated and dealt with. And not only on the basis of lies, without evidence. I will forward letters to the General Controller of the Union, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security and the Attorney General’s Office so that they can carry out a thorough investigation of the case. […]”, he wrote.
