Julián Álvarez scores a great goal in Argentina’s victory over Chile.
Argentina defeated Chile 3-0 on Thursday night (5), at the Monumental de Nuñez. The goals were scored by Mac Allister. Scaloni’s team dominated the match and worked hard to secure a nice home win and remain in first place in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
FIRST HALF
Without Messi, who is recovering from a right ankle injury, Argentina went on the attack, but could not overcome the good Chilean defense. Scaloni’s team began to surround the opponent’s area without much objectivity. The best placements of the hosts came from Nico González’s header and De Paul’s cross. Goalkeeper Arias saved calmly.
In the final stretch of the first phase, Chile embarked on rapid counterattacks and began to find more space in the offensive field. In the 45th minute, the Chileans squandered the best opportunity of the match, with Isla making a great shot for Catalán who headed it against the right post.
SECOND HALF
The first goal came just 2 minutes into the second half. De Paul passed to Julian Álvarez, who crossed to Mac Allister who shot into the corner and opened the scoring. The move was marked by the beautiful light screen created by Lautaro Martínez before the ball reached the Liverpool midfielder. Chile needed to attack, but they lacked a lot of precision in their passing during the offensive transitions.
With the game tied and no great chances created, Argentina played a protocol game, defensively safe, to ensure the victory. In the final stages, however, the Argentines resumed the pressure on the offensive pitch and forced an error when the Chilean’s ball went out. Mac Allister, opportunist, passes the ball to Julián Álvarez who shoots hard into the top right corner and scores a great goal.
There was still time for the world champions’ third goal. On a short corner, Dybala, the temporary heir to the number 10, received the ball in the area and kicked it across the board, surprising Arias and sealing Argentina’s great victory.
UPCOMING COMMITMENTS
