VMA | Anitta Releases Music, Wins MTV Award for Third Time

Taylor Swift was the big winner of the night with seven trophies at the 2024 Video Music Awards

Anitta won the Latin category award for the third time at the MTV Video Music Awards. And this time she wasn’t even surprised when she managed to conquer Moon Man, also known as the Silver Astronaut. The funk singer competed twice, with “Ballakeo”, a talent with Peso Pluma, and with “Mil Veces” and was awarded on Wednesday night (9/11) for her solo recording. In her speech she thanked her fans and mentioned the support she receives from Brazil.

In addition to winning her third consecutive trophy at the American awards, Anitta also released a new song during the event, “Paradise,” in collaboration with American DJs Khaled and Fat Joe, sang “Alegría” in Spanish and Portuguese with Argentine Tiago PZK, and concluded by shouting out who wanted to “f*ck” on the hit “Savage Funk.” The most international of Brazilians was completely at home on American TV.

Taylor Swift Dominance

Far more awarded, the artist who got tired of receiving awards that night was Taylor Swift, who won seven trophies, five of them for her collaboration with Post Malone, “Fortnight,” which was chosen as Video of the Year, Song of the Summer, Best Featured Artist, Directing and Editing (a category she shared with Anitta).

Other award winners

Sabrina Carpenter, who opened Taylor Swift’s last shows in Brazil, won the Song of the Year trophy. In the other music genre categories, the winners were Taylor Swift (Pop), Eminem (Hip Hop), SZA (R&B), Benson Boone (. Alternative), Lenny Kravitz (Rock), Tyla (Afrobeats) and Lisa (K-Pop) in a solo career parallel to BLACKPINK.

The best shows

The event featured several acts, the highlight of which was a blockbuster performance by Katy Perry, who took to the stage at New York’s USB Arena and received the Vanguard trophy, honoring her 20-year career achievements. There was also a tribute to rap label Def Jam’s 40th anniversary, which felt more like an LL Cool J hits parade, with a small appearance by Public Enemy. Sabrina Carpenter and Karol G also gave performances that brought the event’s audience, including Taylor Swift, to their feet.
