Francisco will be taking a 4 day trip to Belgium and Luxembourg on the 26th
Pope Francis has cancelled his public audiences this Monday (23) due to “mild flu-like symptoms” in order to rest for a few days before travelling to Belgium and Luxembourg.
“Due to a mild case of influenza, and as a precaution given the travel in the next few days, the papal audiences scheduled for today are cancelled,” the Vatican Press Office reported.
According to spokesman Matteo Bruni, the rest of Jorge Bergoglio’s weekly program has been maintained so far. Next Wednesday (25) the Holy Father will therefore hold the general audience.
The leader of the Catholic Church, recently returned from a 12-day visit to Asia and Oceania, has suffered from health problems in recent years, including further bouts of influenza and bronchitis.
The new diagnosis comes in the week in which the 87-year-old Argentine will make the 46th trip of his pontificate to Belgium and Luxembourg, between September 26 and 29.
