to remember
Death is doing very well at the US box office! Released on Friday September 6th in the US, BeetlejuiceBeetlejuice Retains the lead at the US box office for the third week in a row with a Sunday 22 released estimate. And that should come as a relief to its director, Tim Burton, who considered retiring after the failure of Dumbo.
To date, its 1988 film sequel has grossed more than $226 million on American soil, making it the third-biggest domestic success behind Alice in Wonderland and Batman (whose box office numbers are phenomenal, adjusted for inflation). Which could speed up the launch of the third installment, as the feature film has collected nearly $330 million worldwide.
Whatever happens, Beetlejuice’s return to cinema is a success. And that’s even if the film ends up losing its lead at the box office for good Transformers – The BeginningAn animated prequel to the famous science fiction saga. To date, a small million dollars separates two feature films, and saving Tim Burton serves a larger number of prints, which allows it to compensate for the lower average. But the gap is so small that the numbers upgrade could work in the Autobots’ favor.
An episode that appears to be the second-worst start to the saga, behind only 21 million for the Bumblebee spin-off/prequel. But it’s worth noting that animation doesn’t have the same ratings as live footage in theaters, and that feature films that did better were released in the summer, which was more favorable to blockbusters.
In our theaters on October 23, Transformers – The Beginning precedes Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’s former dolphin, do not speak evilas well homelandAlexander Aya’s new feature, which starts off less well than Crawl but better than Horns, his two previous films released in American theaters.
His collected 4.5 million dollars at least allowed him to climb to the bottom of the podium, in front Deadpool & Wolverine Which continues to challenge and close in on the local score of Vice Versa 2, 2024’s biggest hit to date. And it is possible that he will succeed. Meanwhile, it’s ahead of a new product, also rated R (forbidden under 17s) and even bloodier: substance.
Having gone through Cannes where it delighted the public and won the screenplay prize (a little surprising since it’s mostly a director’s film), Coralie Farjit’s new feature is taking off above the Rs 45,924 crore of Revenge, her previous opus. But we can hope that its debut will be more, given the buzz surrounding it and despite the smaller number of theaters than its direct competitors.
But word of mouth and a potential awards season presence could help this horror film, starring Demi Moore and Margaret Cowell, make a career as beautiful as it is bloody.
