Another year full of music festivals is coming to an end here in Brazil and once again K-pop fans are suffering from the lack of South Korean names on the lineup. In fact, it was speculated that groups of this musical style would appear at Rock In Rio and Lollapalooza. However, that was not the case this time.
But, after all, will we soon have K-pop at festivals here in Brazil? Well, last year, Billboard Brasil even questioned the Roberto Medinacreator of Rock In Rio, on the possibility.
“There were supposed to be one or two K-pop attractions this year, but negotiations didn’t go ahead. But they’re on my radar. Especially for events in Sao Paulo, where they’re more successful than in Rio. Who knows next time?” he said.
However, now, with the success of Rock In Rio 2024, Roberta Medina, daughter of the entrepreneur and vice president of the Rio music festival, revealed that they continue to try to bring K-pop attractions to their festivals. “We tried, but we couldn’t get them to agree to the agenda. [artistas de kpop]. But you can let us try”, concluded.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that, this year alone, Stray Kids, IVE, ATEEZ and LE SSERAFIM have played at major festivals in the United States. Meanwhile, here in Brazil, we only had the South Korean band The Rose at Lollapalooza in 2023.
