Tucker and Dale are two beautiful hills that came to the forest to recharge their batteries and are ready to have a good time. There they meet the students who came to the party. After a misunderstanding that results in the death of one of the young men, they think that Tucker and Dale are serial killers out for their lives, while our heroes think that the young men are part of a cult and that they are there. Collective suicide! This is the beginning of a giant misunderstanding, in which horror and fun are mixed. Because the more suspicious situations follow each other, the more the misunderstanding grows…
Cinema shelves are full of horror films that pay homage to their glorious elders, including horror comedies; It is in the nature of things. But in this little game we still have to separate the wheat from the chaff, because the best sometimes shoulder the chasm of the void. It’s an understatement to say that we haven’t really seen Tucker & Dale Fight Evil appear on radar screens in 2010.
The very first film directed by Eli Craig (which we’ve pretty much lost sight of since…), painstakingly financed, Tucker & Dale was preceded by an ultra-enthusiastic reception from audiences following its presentations at various festivals and beyond. At the very least, like Sundance or Sitges.
This little nugget, full of black humor, even if frankly disturbing, has achieved the fact that at the same time it pays homage to the early cinema of Sam Raimi or Peter Jackson, offering a re-reading of the absolute classics of the genre, such as Massacre at the chainsaw or Friday. 13, but also a parody of the slashers that have graced our screens for years by adopting genre clichés and codes.
It’s a very difficult balancing act that Eli Craig manages to excel at. To watch (or re-watch!) on Prime Video.
