We wondered how Loups-Garous, the latest production from Netflix’s French subsidiary, would fare internationally. Even if the game is distributed worldwide by Asmodee, it is a very well-known brand in France since its creation about twenty years ago. And it is clear that foreign subscribers were interested enough to watch it.
according to Weekly Top 10 Updated every Wednesday by Netflix, Werewolves is currently the most-watched non-English-language film worldwide, ahead of The Rebel Shadow, with 27 million hours watched. According to the Netflix and Chiffres newsletter, which collects and compares data, Francois Ouzan’s film was offered “A very good start, the third best run for a French film released on Wednesday.

And even if Sous la Seine’s viewing figures aren’t up to par, it’s still shaping up to be a great year for French productions internationally.

François Ouzan and the rest of the team have made no secret of their desire to do a French-style Jumanji, creating a non-commercial board with Asmodee. The family adventure film is a genre that exports very well (it was also translated as “Family Package” in English), even if Loups-Garous remains ultra-referential to the French public (with songs by Daniel Balavoin or Johnny Hallyday).
However, the proposal divided French subscribers, as evidenced by its rating on the AlloCiné profile: with an average of 1.9 out of 5, Loups-Garous still performs better than Sous la Seine and its 1.7 out of 5. It does not necessarily affect the success of the title in France or the rest of the world.
