Considered Louis de Funes’ best film by AlloCiné viewers, Gérard Oury’s La Grande Vadrouille airs on France 3 tonight.
If you’re going to (re)discover this great classic of popular French comedy, which marks the second face-to-face meeting between Louis de Funes and Bourville after Le Corniaud, I suggest you pay special attention to 1 hour, 35 minutes and 6. Within seconds of a feature film to discover a fun little detail that you probably never noticed.
- Le Corniaud: pause for 3 minutes and 21 seconds and take a close look at the face of Louis de Funes
In 1 hour, 35 minutes and 6 seconds…
We’re almost at the end of the movie. The two protagonists (ie house painter Augustin Bouvet and conductor Stanislas Lefort) are fugitives in occupied France in 1942 after helping British paratroopers hide in Paris. Disguised as German soldiers and accompanied by two dogs, they pose as patrols and try to escape into the countryside.
Unfortunately, due to the talents of their four-legged companions, they encounter a real patrol and Louis de Funes’ character finds himself trapped. To get out of trouble, his sidearm shoots into the air, which has the effect of sowing discord among the soldiers… and among the dogs!
… Take a good look at the soldier to the right of Louis de Funes!
It is at this point that I suggest you pay close attention and observe what is happening on the right of your screen, next to Louis de Funes. As our experts at Faux Raccord have already spotted in the program dedicated to the film, we can easily see that during the excitement of the scene, one of the German shepherds attacks the extra and bites him in the arm.
The poor actor, taken aback, immediately frees his arm, and the little incident is so overlooked that it was saved without editing, without the need to reshoot the sequence.
Undoubtedly completely unintentional, this is one of those little shooting hazards that is difficult to control and ultimately contributes to the authenticity of the scene.
