More than 10 days after its release on Prime Video, Cross continues to hold the top spot. A true popular success, this adaptation of James Patterson’s novels was popular thanks to its dark tone, charismatic protagonist and his concern.
The film tells the story of an investigator specializing in psychology, who is looking for a serial killer, nicknamed Fanboy, who killed his wife two years ago.
Amazon immediately sensed the right path and anticipated the success of its series, after the studio renewed it for a second season even before the first aired on November 14. Therefore, Cross will return to our screens, to the great delight of fans.
What will the second season be?
Warning, the following paragraph spoils part of the plot of Season 1 of The Cross.
In Season 1 of Cross, our investigator, played by Aldis Hodge, goes on the trail of Fanboy, a vicious man who kidnaps and kills innocent people after physically “transforming” them to look like one of the serial killers he loves. He quickly discovers that it is Ed Ramsay (Ryan Eggold) who is behind these horrific crimes.
You’ve seen him in New Amsterdam and The Blacklist, he’ll surprise you with his new detective series to watch on Prime Video
Cross managed to get him tried, but on lesser charges, despite his confession, to prevent him from joining the pantheon of other great American criminals. Meanwhile, the policeman discovers who is behind his wife’s murder and rescues his children from Miss Nancy (Karen Robinson).
All’s well that ends well for Cross and his family at the end of Season 1. And if nothing has been teased for season 2, one thing we do know is that it will feature a new story, as Aldis Hodge confirmed to us:
“The creator of the series agreed from the beginning with James Patterson, the author of the books. While we have an incredible source, let’s just say that the Cross series is here to expand the universe a bit.
The series does not follow any plot from the books. And this will be the case for the second season. There will be a new conspiracy and a new killer. It allows people to read the novels after watching the series.”
Is fanboy back?
In an interview given to ColliderShowrunner Ben Watkins announced that Season 2 of Cross has already been filmed. And it can come very quickly! By renewing the detective series before the release of the first one, Prime Video allowed the teams to shoot all the episodes in sequence and, above all, to be able to broadcast them relatively quickly.
The platform has yet to announce a release date for Season 2, but it could come as early as 2025 to avoid an overly long hiatus between two broadcasts — a criticism that can be leveled at a series that streams too much.
If we don’t know what the story will be about yet, one of the characters from the first season may return: Fanboy. Asked about his potential involvement in a sequel to Cross, his interpreter Ryan Eggold said in an interview : “I can’t say anything… Let’s assume that there is a possibility. We discussed the matter, yes, but I can’t tell you anything. ”
With the likely return of Bobby (Johnny Ray Gill) in season two – to help the CIA – there’s a good chance Fanboy will be wanted by the police too, as he knows the little secrets of Washington politicians…
