Actress said that decision reflects the personality of the character Naomi Lapaglia
During a podcast interview Talking Pictures: A Movie Memories, Margot Robbie shared details about his performance as Naomi Lapaglia in the film The Wolf of Wall Street (2013). The actress revealed that the complete nude scene was her own idea, in line with the construction of the character.
“That’s not what she would do in that scene. The bottom line is that she’s going to appear completely naked — that’s her move,” explained Robbie when talking about the decision. The director Martin Scorsese had suggested that she wear a robe for greater comfort, but the actress felt that this did not match Naomi’s personality. In the scene, her character tries to seduce wealthy stockbroker Jordan Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio.
Robbie also recalled an unexpected moment from her final audition for the role. In a scene that required a kiss from the character of DiCaprioshe decided to improvise and hit him.
I thought, I could kiss Leonardo DiCaprio right now, and that would be amazing. I can’t wait to tell all my friends about this. And then I thought… nah. And I just punched him in the face.
The actress continued: “It was dead silent for what seemed like an eternity, but it was probably three seconds. Then they just burst out laughing. Leo and Marty [Scorsese] they were laughing so hard they said ‘That was great’. I was thinking, ‘I’m going to get arrested, I’m pretty sure this is assault, physical assault’.”
She imagined being told: “’Not only will you never work again, you’ll go to jail for it, you idiot. And also why did you have to hit him so hard? You should have hit it easier.’”
In addition to revisiting these moments from the classic 2013 film, Robbie revealed that he uses the soundtrack Titanic to become emotional during scenes that require crying.
I can even hear the ‘Titanic’ theme song and I’ll be crying. And that’s what I do on set if I need to cry in a scene.
Additionally, it was announced that she will star in an adaptation of Wuthering Heights next to Jacob Elordi. The direction will be in charge of Emerald Fennellwinner of the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Beautiful Revenge (Promising Young Woman). Recordings are scheduled to begin next year in the United Kingdom.
About Fennell, Robbie was full of praise:
Emerald immerses you in a world so quickly. She is a master of tone and plot construction. It enters your mind and touches the darkest parts, leaving you complicit in the narrative. This is the kind of story people are still talking about weeks later. It’s a hallway conversation moment, the kind of movie that stays with you.
