A new Star Wars series streaming on Disney+, Star Wars: The Crew is an action series for young and old that echoes the 80s Amblin Entertainment production, developed by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford (Spider-Man: No Way Home). by. The action takes place after the movie “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi”.
This new adventure follows the journey of four children – Wim, Neil, Fern and KB – who are lost in the galaxy after a mysterious discovery on their home planet. They try their best to find a way that will lead them home.
Their adventure, far greater than anything they could have imagined, involves encounters with both allies and unlikely enemies, a mysterious pirate (Jude Law) and a grumpy droid (Nick Frost).
What does the title of the series “Star Wars: The Skeleton Crew” mean?
You should know that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is a long-term project of John Watts and Christopher Ford. Their time at Marvel was beneficial for the production of this fiction, which according to John Watts was close to his heart:
“I wonder what the series would have been like if we had made it right after we first released it. Making blockbusters allows you to learn a lot of useful things for other projects.”
With that Spider-Man experience, the duo was able to oversee the series, which has been officially announced for 2022 by Disney and Lucasfilm. The project, apparently overseen by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, went through multiple scripts but also multiple working titles before becoming Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
Why “Skeleton Crew” and what does the title mean? The series will obviously answer that question as the episodes progress, but co-showrunner Christopher Ford has some answers:
“Skeleton Crew” has several meanings. The first is that this crew is not quite drawn or trained as a skeleton. These kids go off on their own and don’t really have the resources. I don’t even know how to pilot my own ship, so there is a sense of danger.
And then, literally, the idea of a skeleton crew is reminiscent of the piracy they’ll encounter on their travels. We wrote a million name ideas and it was the most fun.”
