The novelty, which won the national title of Extermination: Evolution, is set 28 years after the events of the first film
Sony Pictures released, this Tuesday (10), the first trailer for 28 Years Laterthe long-awaited third chapter of the franchise Exterminationstarted in 2002 with Cillian MurphyOscar winner for Oppenheimer (2023), in the lead role.
The first preview of Extermination: The Evolutionas the film was called in Brazil, shows the characters of Jodie Comer (Free Guy: Taking Control), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Bullet Train), Ralph Fiennes (The Amazing Story of Henry Sugar) and Jack O’Connell (Back to Black) dealing with zombies 28 years after the events of the first film.
The trailer even appears to reveal the character’s fate. Cillian Murphy, Jimwho will participate “surprising and uplifting”as already mentioned Tom Rothmanpresident of Sony Motion Pictures Group.
In one of the scenes, it is possible to see a zombie with characteristics very similar to those of Jimwho in the first film woke up from a coma and discovered that a highly contagious virus, capable of bringing the dead back to life, had caused a social collapse. Watch the preview:
When does it debut Extermination: The Evolution?
With script Alex Garland (Civil War) and direction of Danny Boyle (Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?), Extermination: The Evolution is a direct continuation of Extermination and completely ignores the story of the first sequel, Extermination 2released in 2007, which no longer had any connections with the first film.
The film is scheduled to hit North American theaters on June 20, 2025 and, here, Extermination: The Evolution should be released a little earlier, on June 19, 2025. However, Sony Pictures has not yet confirmed a release date for the film, which already has a confirmed sequel, with Nia DaCostafrom The Legend of Candyman (2021) and The Marvels (2023), replacing Boyle in the direction.
