‘Father there is no more than one 3’ is the highest grossing Spanish film since the start of the pandemic

Resounding success. On the first weekend of its release, More than half a million viewers have seen ‘Padre no hay más que uno 3’ in cinemas throughout Spain.

Spanish cinema, or at least its box office, breathes with this new milestone in the history of national box office receipts. In just four days, the title of Santiago Segura is already the highest grossing Spanish film of the year, surpassing the commercial success of ‘Father there is only one’ (2019) and ‘Father there is only one 2: The arrival of the mother-in-law’ (2020) by 78% and 44% respectively. It is also, the best premiere of a Spanish film since 2016.

“For girls and boys from San Ildefonso and from the Christmas family comedy”, pointed out Fausto Fernández in his review of ‘Father there is only one 3’. Co-written again by Santiago Segura and Marta González de Vegathe production led by Mª Luisa Gutiérrez, is already on the list of the highest-grossing films in the history of our cinema.

Javier, Marisa and the children (there are now 6), return in this third installment together with uncles Paco and Carmen, the mother-in-law and the puppy but, beware, there is news: the girl’s boyfriend and the grandfather are presented in this new installment.

The children accidentally break a Nativity scene figurine from their father’s collection and must by all means get one just like it., the problem is that it is a unique antique piece. Sara, her eldest daughter, breaks up with her boyfriend, Ocho, who will try to recover her favors with the help of her father-in-law, Javier. Precisely Javier’s father-in-law, Marisa’s father, will be welcomed into the family home to spend the holidays after their recent separation, which will not leave Javier’s mother, Milagros, indifferent.

Rocio, the folklore of the family, who has been playing the Virgin for several Christmases, is relegated this year to playing the shepherdess, something that her father, Javier, is not willing to accept. Are we talking about one of the best Spanish comedies?

Santiago Segura (the father), Toni Acosta (the mother), the children Martina D’Antiochia, Calma Segura, Luna Fulgencio, Carlos G. Morollón, Sirena Segura and Luna López; the brothers-in-law played by Leo Harlem and Silvia Abril, the “adorable” mother-in-law played by Loles León, El Cejas as Ocho, Carlota’s incredible boyfriend; and the popular Carlos Iglesias as the grandfather, complete a cast that also includes the assistant, the mothers of the school and José Luis, the puppy.
