“The evolution has been very good and in the two days following the surgery this complementary procedure was discussed. The procedure was performed today at 7 in the morning, it was a success. It is a complement to the surgical procedure and the president is awake, already eating, super stable. The program for the next few days has not been delayed at all, because depending on the evolution of the president, he should be discharged at the beginning of the week”, said Dr. Roberto Kalil Filho, in a press conference this morning. Thursday.
The procedure Lula underwent is called middle meningeal artery embolization. On the afternoon of Wednesday the 11th, the medical team explained that this second operation had already been planned since the president was hospitalized and represents a precaution to avoid possible new brain hemorrhages in the future.
According to doctors, the operation was not carried out in a surgical center, but in a catheterization room. A catheter was inserted through the president’s femoral artery, which reaches the head region to close the small local arteries. The surgery is “low risk” and “relatively simple”.

Previously, it was also reported that he “had good progress in the immediate postoperative period, without complications.”
The medical team said the new procedure does not interfere with the president’s planned resignation. The expectation, if the situation goes well, is that Lula will return to Brasilia next week. The president is accompanied by first lady Janja Lula da Silva.

The CEO, who is 79 years old, was rushed into surgery at the Sírio Libanês hospital, in Sao Paulo, in the early hours of Tuesday 10th, after experiencing severe headaches and tests revealed a hemorrhage in the brain region.
He underwent emergency surgery to drain a hematoma located in the frontoparietal region, on the left side of the head. The lesion was 3 centimeters and was removed. The first procedure Lula underwent was called trepanation.
In a press conference held on the same day, the doctors responsible for the operation declared that the chief executive’s condition was stable and that Lula was conscious. Furthermore, the president spoke and ate normally and will be under observation for the next few days. “He has no brain injury. He has no brain damage. The risk of injury is zero,” Dr. Kalil said.

According to the medical team, the intracranial hemorrhage is the consequence of a domestic accident suffered by Lula on October 19, when he fell in the bathroom of the Palácio do Alvorada and needed stitches on his head.
