The production of the new sequel features Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox in classic roles and new additions to the cast
The director celebrates the first day of recording
Kevin Williamson announced the start of filming on “Scream 7” with an emotional post on social media Tuesday evening (7/1). The creator of the franchise shared details about his directorial debut in the new chapter of the saga and paid homage to the legacy of Wes Craven, director of the original 1996 film.
“I shouldn’t be posting about ‘Scream,’ and I hope Spyglass Media and Paramount forgive me, but when you have one of the best days of your life, it’s hard to keep it to yourself,” Williamson wrote on Instagram.
The director praised the team and cast for their performance on the first day of recording. “What an amazing day I had working with an incredible, talented cast and crew. They gave it their all and supported me every step of the way,” he said.
“I am immensely grateful for this opportunity and for Wes Craven, who has been in my thoughts the entire time. His impact on my life and career is endless,” he added.
Production details
The new film brings back Neve Campbell, who played the original final girl Sidney Prescott, along with Courteney Cox, who will reprise her role as journalist Gale Weathers. Mason Gooding also returns as Chad Meeks-Martin. Additionally, actress Isabel May (“1883”) will play Sidney’s daughter. Other names announced include Celeste O’Connor (“Madame Teia”), Asa Germann (“Gen V”), Mckenna Grace (“Ghostbusters: Beyond”), Sam Rechner (“Heartbreak High”) and Anna Camp (“The Choice Perfect “).
Williamson, who wrote the first four “Screams,” had directed only one film before, the youth comedy “Fatal Temptation,” in 1999. This time he isn’t writing the story. The screenplay is by Guy Busick, author of the revival of the franchise, as screenwriter of the two most recent films.
It is scheduled to premiere on February 26, 2026 in Brazil, one day before the US launch.
