The road racing market expects accelerated progress in 2025

With a 13% growth in the number of participants in 2023, running consolidates its position as one of the most popular sports in Brazil. The Keep Running expert highlights even greater growth potential for 2025

In 2023, according to data from the Brazilian Street Racing Association (ABCR), São Silvestre and Ticket Sports, reported by Rio Doce diary150,000 road races were held in Brazil, with the number of participants increasing by 13% compared to 2022. The country is currently estimated to have around 13 million runners.

The increase in interest in running is also reflected in online searches. According to Google Trends data, reported by CNNSearches for races in Brazil saw a sharp increase in June 2023 and have continued to grow since then. This is the highest volume of searches recorded in 20 years, since the platform began archiving data in 2004. Sergipe, Distrito Federal, São Paulo, Paraná and Espírito Santo are the states where the practice of this sport arouses the greatest interest .

The forecast for 2025 is also encouraging, according to Igor Santos, CEO of Keep Running. From the point of view of professionals, this number of people interested in running still has a lot of room to increase.

“Running is a democratic sport, people who practice it are welcome in sports consultancy, in communities and also in apps. Next year it should continue on this path. For 2025 there are no signs of reduction, on the contrary, everything indicates that will grow and all the pillars of this market are preparing for this”, he analyzes.

Again according to the expert, within the sector each pillar presents specific challenges and different needs. “When it comes to equipment, for example, runners try to overcome their limits and, to do so, look for accessories that combine factors such as comfort and functionality, such as shoes with good cushioning,” he points out.

Another scenario, which according to him has good growth prospects for 2025, are sporting events. “The organizing companies focus on offering experiences that go beyond the race itself, creating environments and activities that encourage participants to stay there and experience the event even after the competition ends,” explains the CEO of Keep Running.

In the training segment, the trend is for increasingly personalized programs, focused on strengthening and specific preparation for each runner’s goals. “In short, each area has invested in more in-depth strategies to create truly personalized experiences aligned with the needs of its customers,” he concludes.
