“Dragon Ball Daima” is the latest addition to the iconic franchise created by Akira Toriyama, celebrating 40 years of the series. Released in Japan on October 11, 2024, the anime quickly became a success, being made available on platforms such as Crunchyroll, Netflix and Max. The story revolves around Goku, Vegeta and other Z Fighters who, after a wish from the evil King Gomah, they turn into children. This wish is granted by Shenron, the wish-granting dragon of the series. The plot takes place after the events of Dragon Ball Z and before Dragon Ball Super, offering a new perspective on the well-known characters.
The production of “Dragon Ball Daima” stands out not only for its compelling narrative, but also for the active participation of Akira Toriyama, responsible for the story and character design. This anime is considered canon in the franchise’s timeline, unlike Dragon Ball GT, which does not have Toriyama’s direct contribution. The series is directed by Yoshitaka Yashima and Aya Komaki, with composition and screenplay by Yūko Kakihara.
As for screening in Brazil, distributor Paris Filmes confirmed that the first three episodes of “Dragon Ball Daima” will be screened in Brazilian cinemas starting February 6, 2025. The Brazilian dubbing was also announced, highlighting the return of Úrsula Bezerra as the voice of the child Goku, a role he has already played in other productions of the franchise. The released trailer features voices in Portuguese and promises to bring a nostalgic experience for fans.
The episodes are currently available subtitled on the platforms mentioned above, but there is no confirmation yet on when the rest of the series will be available dubbed on streaming platforms. To date, 12 original language episodes have been released, with new episodes becoming available weekly. Anticipation for the dub’s arrival in theaters is high among fans, who eagerly await the opportunity to see their favorite characters in a new cinematic adventure.
“Dragon Ball Daima” not only revives the essence of the original series with its simpler and funnier adventures, but also promises to capture the attention of both new viewers and longtime fans. With its combination of nostalgia and innovation, this new chapter in the Dragon Ball saga is destined to become a milestone in the history of anime.
