As we prepare to say goodbye to one of the most beautiful films of the 7th art, the hugely popular trilogy returns to the Netflix catalog. The platform is putting three Back to the Future movies online today, which feature Doc and Marty McFly going back in time and vice versa to prevent certain events.
We are no longer presenting Robert Zemeckis’ sci-fi trilogy, the first part of which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. We are in 1985 when the first part is released in cinemas. For the studios, the director and the two leads Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, this is a blessing.
A genius idea
The idea for the film came to Robert Zemeckis and his screenwriter Bob Gale when they wondered what it would be like to meet their parents. From this point of departure, they imagine the temporary adventures of Marty McFly. Adventures that will undergo various modifications… So, for example, time travel was originally supposed to take place through a modified refrigerator. The idea was quickly abandoned, the authors were afraid that children would try to lock it in the refrigerator…
In the end, this is a car that will work in their favor. But not any! It’s a DeLorean, recognizable by its hooded doors and unpainted stainless steel body. If since then this name, as well as the model from the film, entered popular culture, the history of this car was much less happy.
Its creator, John Zachary DeLorean, former vice president of the General Motor Company group (from 1972 to 1973), invested all his money in the development of this model, but there were no sales… in 1983, two years before the release. In the future, the designer was accused (wrongly, later he was acquitted) of drug trafficking and misuse of state funds. His company went bankrupt after producing over 9,000 cars (approx).
While the Back to the Future movies are regularly aired on TV, their arrival on Netflix is still an opportunity to re-watch them or introduce them to a younger audience (recommended for ages 8 and up)…
