The least we can say is that Alien: Romulus, which hits theaters in August 2024, has met with success — and even phenomenal success — with critics and the public, taking in $350.9 million at the box office against $80 million. Directed by Fede Alvarez, the sci-fi horror film takes place between the events of Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Alien.
Let us remind you that the feature film tells the story of a group of young travelers who are excavating an abandoned space station, encountering the most terrifying form of life in the universe…
Although a direct sequel has yet to be officially confirmed, Alvarez has stated that he is interested in continuing the story, potentially with surviving characters from the previous film. 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell also revealed late last year that ideas for a sequelAlien: Romulus They were still in development.
Speaking to Empire Magazine (via ComingSoon), Fede Alvarez assessed the current state of Aliens: Romulus 2 and yes, high hopes.
“ And I’m working on it right now.”he said. “We can’t wait to see where it takes us. We’ve pretty much checked out everything I want to see and brought back a lot of things I haven’t seen in a while. Wherever we go now, we can venture into uncharted waters.“
He added:I think it’s going to be really interesting to take the characters you know from this movie to a place in the Alien franchise that we’ve never been before and discover things you’ve never seen before.“It’s intriguing.
However, the director clarified that he did not want to make a sequelAlien: Romulus Simply because the first one made the money: in fact, he and Sayagüez are looking for the right story to tell next.
“A common mistake with sequels is to make them because we can, and thanks to the success of Romulus, we definitely can. But I wouldn’t do it unless I have a good idea for it that deserves that title.“We can only respect that philosophy.
Alien: Romulus is currently to be (re)discovered on VOD.
