Tom Cruise thrived, like Top Gun: Maverick continues to break records for Paramount. And as the star finds success, Miles Fisher, who became famous for his Cruise deepfakes, is causing a stir. Obviously, going viral for his jaw-dropping recreations of the actor helped raise his profile. But as Fisher now puts it, getting people to think it’s Cruise proved a burden, even with high-profile characters like Leonardo DiCaprio.
Miles Fisher seems to really appreciate the attention and work he has received, thank you its similarity to Mission Impossible Star. Yet whenever he works with Hollywood titans, there is one thing he can’t get rid of. As Fisher explained:
However, I’ve had a decent career acting alongside extraordinary people. I have worked with Leonardo DiCaprio, Clint Eastwood and Angelina Jolie. I played with Vince Vaughn, Laurence Fishburne and Keegan-Michael Key. I played seriously with Elisabeth Moss, Courtney Vance and Owen Wilson. Do you know what they all had in common? Everyone thought he was as crazy as I looked like Tom Cruise. I started acting to prove that I wasn’t just Tom Cruise’s boyfriend. I could not.
Working alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Angelina Jolie and Laurence Fishburne seems to have been mostly fun for him. However, it appears that what has become a burden for Miles Fisher is that they fail to see beyond the resemblance to Tom Cruise. Fame can definitely be a tool that can provide people with opportunities in a positive way. Although Fisher was more open in his own THR piece of opinion, saying that constant comparisons have put him in a very interesting state as a person:
The vast majority of people who notice my resemblance to Tom Cruise feel good about making the connection (ah) and hardly think about what a strange burden and responsibility it has been for me, both personally and professionally. Throughout my adult life, I lived in an almost groundhog party state, with people stopping me every day to compare me to the most famous actor in the world. I constantly remind myself that everyone, I’m that guy. And it’s still like a punch in the face.
The stars groundhog day the comparison really puts your situation into perspective and feels really exhausting. I can say that if I was constantly compared to someone else based on my looks, I would probably feel like them. It should be noted that the viral actor even showed his willingness to delete viral videos so as not to offend the real actor. He may also have considered it due to security concerns analysts had due to the fluid nature of the clips.
Before going viral for his Tom Cruise TikTok videos, Mike Fisher soon found success on the Internet with his YouTube music video parodies. He has often parodied Hollywood production, including TV shows and movies, with the Dissident the actor was a big hit for Fisher even then. He explained how playing the Hollywood icon so well influenced his burgeoning acting career:
I simulated American Psycho and Saved by the Bell. I fooled the Hollywood agencies and of course Tom Cruise. I was happy to see the number of views exceed one million. I felt like it was proof of concept that there was an audience that loved watching me. But was it really me they were watching? The resemblance to Tom Cruise was becoming a real obstacle on a professional level. It seemed that, as much as he had deceived others, he was simply too good to deceive. Once you saw me do this, you couldn’t ignore it and there wasn’t much I could do to get rid of it. Believe me, I’ve tried.
It was certainly difficult for him to lose his status as a Tom Cruise impersonator. Obviously, he wants to be seen as Mike Fisher, the actor, not the “Deepfake Cruise” guy. It can be difficult for stars to escape such labels and one can only hope Fisher can make it.
However, relying on these deepfakes worked for Mike Fisher, as he teamed up with celebrities like Keegan-Michael Key and Paris Hilton for important viral moments. But viral success is not synonymous with happiness, as some would say. Hopefully his strong will will translate into a career in Hollywood that isn’t defined by his resemblance to the star.
