The space officially opens on Tuesday for guests and Wednesday for the general public.
or Cineclub Cortina officially opens this Tuesday 26, for guests, but can be visited by the public the following day. The film program begins with the screening of the documentary Moroccan cinema, from 19:00. Another novelty will be the preview, on Sunday 31st, again at 7pm, of the feature film Peter’s journey, by Laís Bodanzky, who will later participate in a debate. You know a little about these films.
Moroccan cinema
The choice of Ricardo Calil’s documentary was not accidental, as the film focuses on one of the most luxurious cinemas in the center of São Paulo in the 1950s, which, after closing (1994), was the object of occupations. A destination that, in a sense, was the same as the vast majority of the rooms in the region.
In 2018, Calil invited residents occupying Sao Paulo’s abandoned cinema to play classic films screened there in the 1950s. For the director, the song could represent the plight of “refugees, immigrants and Brazilians living in the building”. Thus all personal stories intertwine with those of the films, and in that decadent environment of once luxurious rooms, producing a nostalgic effect on the viewer.
Peter’s journey
With a national premiere scheduled for September 1st, the director’s new feature film Lais Bodanzky is an account that uses fictional facts about the voyage by ship that d. Pedro I (lived by Cauã Reymond) returned to Portugal in 1831. He seeks physical and emotional strength to face his brother who has usurped his kingdom. The film is set, therefore, in this crossing of the Atlantic Ocean – in an English frigate, members of the court, officers, servants and slaves mingle, in a babel of languages and social positions.
In the midst of a suffocating place, Pedro finds himself sick and insecure: enters the vessel in search of a place and a homeland. Indeed, in search of himself. The film shows an unknown Peter. For Lais, provocation is what counts. “(In September) we will have the bicentennial of Independence. It is my contribution to the debate,” he said Estadio.
