A passenger bus fell into a 800 meter high abyss and left at least 30 deaths and 15 injured on Monday in the city of Yocalla in Potosí, in the southern Bolivia.

According to the local police, the victims are transferred to the morgue, according to Colonel Victor Benavide to the AFP news agency.

The accident occurred on a narrow two -way road, which is between Potosí and Orro. Uneltel reported 15 injured, but did not specify how many occupants of the vehicle. The authorities believe in the hypothesis that the vehicle was traveling at high speed and the driver “failed” to check the bus.

The wounded were brought to a hospital of serious condition, according to the colonel. Among these there are at least three minors.

The accident is considered the most serious recorded in 2025, after another bus left the way in late January, also in Potosí, and left 19 deaths.

The bus left La Paz and went to Villazón, on the border between Argentina, but left the track as he turned a turn and overturned. About 1,400 people die on Bolivian roads every year, due to the changing drivers and mechanical failures, according to data from the Ministry of the Interior.

The Department of Potosí is responsible for 10.6% of all road accidents with victims, according to the safety observatory of Bolivian citizens.
