‘The Witcher’: the monsters have changed in season 2

Lauren Schmidt, creator of ‘The Witcher’, talks about how the representation of monsters has evolved in season 2 of the Netflix series.

“We have followed the guidelines that worked then to create a spectacular second season. We continue to be guided very much by Lauren Schmidt’s vision of the story, it depends on her how much the series sticks to the books in the future”, comments the same henry cavill about the second season of ‘The Witcher‘. “It’s not up to me to decide, but as long as Geralt stays true to the character, I’ll do my best to make sure I continue to do my job to the best of my abilities.”

Lauren Schmidtcreator of the Netflix series that adapts the novels of Andrzej Sapkowski (and the CD Projekt video games), not only has it taken into account the evolution of the plots of Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer in this new season, but the enormous creatures to be shot down have also been more than discussed in the script room.

“For me it’s the scariest monster because I don’t like insects,” Hissrich tells DigitalSpy about the myriapod. “There is a scene where he gets up and you see some kind of human arms. She has the body of a centipede but she also has very human arms that reach towards Ciri. One of the things we’ve worked on a lot this season has been the visual contact between our monsters and our characters, so that they feel more fulfilled and more… that they have their own point of view.”

“Monsters are best when they’re part of a larger story,” he explains. “Fighting the striga changed who Geralt was because he made the decision to save the princess instead of killing her.”

Schmidt, head writer and producer of both ‘The Witcher‘ as of its future prequel, ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin‘, and producer of the animated film ‘The Witcher: Nightmare Wolf‘ (Kwang Il Han, 2021), has worked as a screenwriter for successful television titles such as ‘The West Wing of the White House‘, ‘With out PRIVIOUSE appointment‘, ‘Daredevil‘, ‘The Defenders‘ and ‘The Umbrella Academy‘.

“We’re taking this into the second season and making sure that when we meet the monsters, they’re not just something Geralt fights on the way to another place, but they’re an integral part of the story.” creator. “And so they became characters, I would say even more so in the second season. When you watch the last two episodes I urge you to look at that because there’s a lot of eye contact. There is much more humanization of them”.

The first two seasons of the applauded ‘The Witcher‘ are now available on Netflix, forming part of the large collection of fantasy series available on platforms.
