Warner Bros. has announced the release date of “Joker 2”. Entitled “Joker: Folie à Deux” in English, the production will be released in theaters on October 4, 2024 in the United States, exactly five years after the release of the first film.
The sequel to the 2019 blockbuster will once again see actor Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role and will be directed by Todd Phillips. The director revealed that he finished the script, in collaboration with Scott Silver, in early June.
Variety magazine reported that, to get Phoenix to play Arthur Fleck once again, Warner offered him a salary of $ 20 million. This equates to half the full budget of the original “Joker”.
The name “Folie à Deux” refers to a French medical term used to define a mental disorder that affects two or more people at the same time.
In addition to this plot clue, the production must be presented as a musical and can count on none other than Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn.
The First Joker was the highest-grossing adult film of all time (“R” rating in the US), grossing over $ 1 billion worldwide. In addition to Joaquin Phoenix’s Oscar, the film also won the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences trophy for Hildur Guðnadóttir’s score.
The timing of the release date revelation draws attention as it does when the “Batgirl” reject came to light. Warner decided not to release the film, despite filming being completed. The film’s directors, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, say they were “shocked” by the abrupt cancellation.
