Walter Hamada Wasn’t Asked About Batgirl’s Cancellation And Could Leave Franchise Presidency
Walter Hamadapresident of DC Films may step down after abrupt cancellation of Batgirl According to information from The Hollywood Reporter there were frictions between Hamada and the president of Warner, David Zaslav.
Zaslav promised to do a ‘reboot’ of the DC universe in a 10-year plan to compete with Marvel in theaters, also opting for the interconnected universe between the films. However, during the coordination of the DC executive, the films were loosely connected as is the case with joker (2019) with Joaquin Phoenix and The Batman (2022).
Hamada agreed to stay at the post until the launch of black adam (2022) which premieres in October, the performance of the feature at the box office could define its stay in DC. Zalasv has already made it clear that he is not satisfied with the way the heroes of the franchise are being used in the cinema.
“We think we can build a much stronger, sustainable growth business model with DC characters. For that, let’s focus on quality. We’re not going to release any movies until they’re fully done. DC is something we can improve on.” Zaslav (via The Hollywood Reporter).
The DC Cinematic Universe path hasn’t performed well in recent years. Hamada assumed the presidency of the franchise in 2018 when the Justice League (2017) failed at the box office.
