CinemaNetflix bets on “Golden” from K-Pop warriors for awards season

THE Netflix is keeping an eye on the season of awards with K-Pop Warriorsyour new animated success. The streaming service will submit to music “Golden”highlight of the soundtrack of the feature, for consideration in the main categories of original song. With a resounding reception since its debut, on June 20, the animation follows the fictional group Huntr/X formed by Rumi (Arden Cho, Hierarchy), Mira (May Hong) and Zoey (Ji-young yoo, Steel Tigers) that balances the career of K-Pop idols with the mission of protecting the world from soul devouring demons. Alongside passionate fans, the characters use music as the main weapon against evil.

The soundtrack of the film, produced by Sony Pictures AnimationIt already makes history: it debuted in 8th place at Billboard 200, becoming the most successful trail of the year so far. The single is now available, through a partnership with the Republic Records. The digital version will feature three tracks: “Golden”, “Golden – Instrumental” and “Golden – Cappella”.

“Our goal from the beginning was that the songs advanced the story, it was not just a trail”explained Eisendrath the Variety. “Golden” It was the sixth song written for the movie and packs one of the most striking scenes of the animation: the moment when the group tries to seal the “Golden Honmoon”, a barrier that would prevent demons from returning. It is in this sequence that the protagonist Rumi reveals to be partially demon, in an emotional stretch that carries the narrative weight of the song.

In the first week, K-Pop WarriorsIt accumulated 9.2 million views on Netflix, entering the platform top 10 in all 93 monitored countries, including first place in 33 of them, such as Brazil, South Korea, Mexico, France and Philippines. The following week, the number more than doubled: there were 24.2 million views.
