Mato Grosso and Acre are among the nine states that make up the Amazon legal region. The repercussion was also negative among the Netizen, which indicated the error in social networks and made criticism. The Amazon legal map with errors was taken from the IBGE website, where it was initially made available.
The 2024 map of Amazon Legal aims to graphically represent the Region, which covers about 59% of the Brazilian territory and was created by law in 1953, in order to promote economic and social development. The legal Amazon includes the states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Mato Grosso, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima, Tocantins and part of Maranhão.
The lack of acronym of acro, identified only by the capital, Rio Branco and the confusion between Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, have generated concern among the experts, who understand that the map is an important tool used in research, public policies and educational materials.
The error occurs between the debates on the environment and on climate change, both in Brazil and abroad, both the role of the Amazon in this context. The region hosts the largest tropical forest in the world, with great socio -cultural and biological diversity, with a central role in the fight against climate change.
