One of the greatest features of director Quentin Tarantino is the ultimate mastery of his dialogue and his genius in an absolutely attractive sequence of discussion. Pulpa fiction from the reservoir from dogs to Kill Bill, Jackie Brown, or once in Hollywood, the filmmaker showed an extraordinary know-how to this exercise.
In 2015, by comic cone de San Diego, Tarantino was questioned on this particular topic for eight bastards. On stage, the filmmaker answered the exact question of the fan that is quoted in the article Business Insider : What is it, he says, the best scene he ever wrote?
The best scene by Tarantino is never written
True to her habit, Tarantino responded with sincerity and without a tree. “This is a sincere question, I don’t even know the answer, especially with the lack of this time.”For the first time responded to the director.
“I think my favorite scene in everything I wroteIntellectual Basters“Tarantino revealed.
I think my favorite scene in everything I wrote is a French farm, at the beginning of the intellectual basters.
The scene, which the director deals with, is the first of his epic and brutal film on World War II, which was released in 2009. In this sequence, Colonel Hans Landa, who is explained by Christophe Walt, arrives in the dairy chamber in the French countryside.
Landa doubts the family in hiding the Jews. Colonel sits with his father, Perier Lapadit, who is performed by Dennis Minchet and asks him to ask about the Dreyfus family place. With unbearable tension, the sequence is brilliant, especially with the virtuoso of the dialogues and the visceral interpretation of Christophe Waltis as a terrible and charming cruel colonel Nazi.
Sadist and memorable evil
Tarantino did not specify why this was his favorite scene, but we can realize that Landa’s character was especially interesting for the filmmaker. Indeed, the latter loves to write the roles of bad boys, and this evil colonel “Jewish hunter” was a real challenge because he had to oppose him as charming.
Tarantino will say this in 2016 at the Jerusalem International Film Festival: “Landa is the best character that I wrote and probably the best thing I had to write to write all over my career”He said.
Landa is the best character I wrote and probably the best thing I would have to write about all my career.
However, it did not obtain this for a film director who had many problems to find the perfect translator for the role: “I was worried. Until I found the perfect land. I wanted to abolish the movie. I gave it another week at the end of which I stopped. He said.
The character is now considered one of the greatest bad guys in the 7th art and its introduction sequence is not related. Within 20 minutes, he constantly pointed out the viewers, making this opening scene one of the most mythical in cinema history.
A real genius
“Before that, in my first scenario, Real novelThe whole speech was a scene that would overcome. Then, when I finally wrote this sequence in Inglourious Basterds, I said to myself: Oh, I think I finally managed to overcome it! “Said the director.
Tarantino refers to a humorous speech full of roughness expressed by Dennis Hooper when he appears in front of Christopher Woken’s mafia. Speaking on the DVD audio comments, the filmmaker pointed out one of the moments that he is most proud of throughout his career.
If you want (re -) see inglourious basterds, the film is available on HBO Max and Prime video platforms.
