“Lord of the Rings”: Peter Jackson considered hypnosis to forget the trilogy

Peter Jackson, director of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, commented that he even thought of undergoing hypnosis sessions to forget the movies.

In an interview with Chatter’s Awards podcast The Hollywood reporter, Peter Jackson revealed that he “seriously considered” trying to use hypnosis to forget his Oscar-winning films, the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. However, while some may think that this director’s desire is due to the fact that it was a traumatic experience, the reason is entirely positive.

“When we made the ‘Lord of the Rings’ movies, I always felt like I was the unfortunate person who never got to see them as an unexpected movie,” Jackson said. “When they were screened, I was immersed in them for five or six years. It was a great loss for me not to be able to see them like everyone else, ”explained the director.

So, he confessed that he thought about asking for help to correct this problem. “I actually seriously considered going to a hypnotist to hypnotize myself and make me forget the movies and work I’ve been doing for the past six or seven years so I can sit back and enjoy them. I didn’t follow him, but I talked to the [mentalista britânico] Derren Brown about it and said he thought he could do it.

Despite Brown’s confidence and optimism, it seems unlikely that anyone will be able to erase from Peter Jackson’s memory the years of obsessive work he went through to perfect the award-winning “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, based on the work of JRR Tolkien.

But if Jackson wasn’t able to enjoy his work as a fan, he added that he intends to do so with Amazon’s new series, “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” And without the need for hypnosis to be able to watch it all for the first time. That’s because Jackson said Amazon Studios even asked him to get involved in the new series and that the scripts would be sent to the director, which never happened.

The “Lord of the Rings” trilogy grossed nearly $ 3 billion at the worldwide box office and won 10 Academy Awards. Years later, Peter Jackson remains an award contender, this time for the Beatles documentary, “Get Back,” which garnered five Emmy nominations.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” will debut on Prime Video on September 2nd.
