The approval of President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva passed disapproval for the first time in nine months, showed a survey on Thursday, with a growing dispute with the United States.
At the beginning of July, the President of the United States Donald Trump said he would apply 50% rates on Brazilian exports to the country to fight what he called “Hitch Hunt” against former president Jair Bolsonaro.
These rates were formalized on Thursday, although with some exemptions in important sectors. The Trump government has also imposed visa penalties and restrictions on Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court (Stf), a speaker of the case in which Bolsonaro is accused accused of attempted coup.
Lula’s government reacted, defining Trump an unwanted “emperor” and the sanctions of “unacceptable”.
The Atlasintel/Bloomberg investigation showed the approval of 50.2% of Lula performance, over 49.7% of the previous survey, conducted two weeks ago and marked the first time that it has obtained more approval than disapproval since October.
The new research increases the tests that Trump’s tactics could leave the culatra in Brazil, increasing public support for the government.
The percentage of interviewees who consider the government of Lula Bom or Great has also improved, now in 46.6% of 43.4%, although this is still less than 48.2% which consider it badly or terrible now, compared to 49.4% of the previous survey.
If this week took place a repetition of the 2022 presidential elections in Brazil, 47.8% of the interviewees would vote for Lula, against 44.4% in the previous survey and 44.2% in Bolsonaro, compared to 46%.
Although it has been prevented from holding public offices by 2030, Bolsonaro insists on the fact that he can compete again, while Lula implied that he intends to apply for the re -election.
The survey interviewed 7,334 Brasiliani adults online between 25 and 28 July. The research has a margin of error of about 1 percentage point.
