Netflix has released several images from the fifth season of “Cobra Kai”, a spin-off series of “Karate Kid”, and reveal the return of a historical character in the franchise.
The new images offer material for “Cobra Kai” fans to speculate on the events of the new season. The anticipation for the fifth season is high, with the Cobra Kai planning to expand their hold across the San Fernando Valley, now under full control of Terry Silver, played by Thomas Ian Griffith.

On the other hand, Ralph Machio’s Daniel LaRusso and William Zabka’s Johnny Lawrence will have to recruit new and familiar faces to try and fight the Cobra Kai. Among these familiar faces, the new images revealed that there is Mike Barnes, played by Sean Kanan, a character from the movie “Karate Kid 3 – The Final Challenge”. Details of the character’s return, which will be introduced in “Cobra Kai”, have yet to be revealed.
The series follows the lives of Daniel and Johnny more than 30 years after the events of the 1980s “Karate Kid” franchise. It all started when the two youth rivals clash again, when they decide to open competing dojos. However, now the two must team up to get the Cobra Kai dojo out of the hands of villain John Kreese, played by Martin Kove.
The return of the stars of the original franchise has become a staple of the series, with several well-known names from the past bringing their roles in the series back to life, such as Randee Heller, as Lucille LaRusso, and Yuji Okumoto as Chozen Toguchi. .
On the other hand, the series also has a cast of new faces, which include the likes of Tanner Buchanan, Xolo MaridueƱa, Mary Mouser, Courtney Henggeler, Jacob Bertrand, Peyton List and Vanessa Rubio.
The series initially came as a YouTube Premium original production in 2018, but was eventually acquired by Netflix in 2020 when YouTube stopped producing scripted original content.
The fifth season of “Cobra Kai” will debut on Netflix on September 9th.
