For the fourth consecutive year, the Brazilian cinematic presents the Show 50 years laterwhich displays feature films launched half a century ago. Curated by Paulo Sacramentothe event happens between August 7 and 17and tickets are free, and should be removed one hour before each session in the large Othello and Oscarite rooms. For movies shown outside, there is no ticket distribution and sessions are subject to space capacity. The opening takes place outside, on the day 7, Thursday, at 8:30 pmwith the Italian classic Prelude to killfrom Argento Dario.
In addition to the exhibitions, the show presents Parallel Events that collaborate in the understanding and historical contextualization of the productions. In this edition, the public will be able to check a poster exhibition In the Foyer Grande Othello, a Thematic lecture with Amir Labaki and Lúcio Kodato about 1975 documentaries, the launch of a digital catalog and the traditional display of Cinejornals before the sessions.
In all, they were selected 44 Movies – 15 feature films and 9 Brazilian shorts, and 20 foreign feature films. Among the highlights of the program are titles as Lilian M (Confidential Report)from CARLOS REICHENBACH; The right of the strongest is freedomfrom Rainer Werner Fassbinder; DERSU UZALAfrom Akira Kurosawa; Adoptionfrom Meszar; The Battle of Chilefrom PATRICIO GUZMÁN; and The desirefrom Walter Hugo Khouri.
The show brings together both consecrated and film rarities, including Jeanne Dielmanfrom Chantal Akerman; Barry Lyndonfrom Stanley Kubrick; The mirrorfrom Andrei Tarkovski; A stranger in the nestfrom Milos Forman; Welfarefrom Frederick Wiseman; Of coursefrom Glauber Rocha; Blood crystalsfrom Luna Alkalay; and The Caraíba Monsterfrom Julio Bressane.
Especially for this edition, new digital copies in 4K resolution have been made, respecting high quality and preservation technical standards. The films selected for scanning in 2025 are: Delicious love betrayalscollective film of Domingos de Oliveira, Tereza Trautman and Phydias Barbosa; The Legend of Ubirajarafrom André Luiz Oliveira; and Northeast: Cordel, suddenly, songfrom Tânia Quaresma – All recovered from matrices preserved in the Cinemateca collection.
In honor of the 100 years of In search of goldfrom Charles Chaplinthe classic will be displayed on the day August 15, Friday, at 8:30 pmoutside the Brazilian Cinematheque. One of the highlights of this edition is the exclusive display of Cinejornals of Channel 100part of the vast collection of Cinemateca currently in the process of recovery through a special project focused on preserving this important collection.
