Young actress Kathryn Newton, known for her work in the series “Supernatural”, “The Society”, “Big Little Lies” and the horror comedy “Freaky”, will star in a female version of the classic “Frankenstein”.

Entitled “Lisa Frankenstein”, the film is set in the 1980s and follows a high school student who manages to create the man of her dreams by reanimating the corpse of a young man from the Victorian era.

The cast also includes Cole Sprouse (“Riverdale”), Carla Gugino (“Dangerous Game”) and Joe Chrest (Stranger Things).

The screenplay was written by Diablo Cody, Academy Award winner for “Juno” (2007) and who most recently wrote the acclaimed “Tully” (2018). Zelda Williams (“Kappa Kappa Die”) will direct.

“Lisa Frankenstein” doesn’t have a release date yet.

Kathryn Newton will soon be seen as the powerful daughter of Ant-Man in the film “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”, which hits theaters in February.
