In Allociné: Un si grand soleil, after months of absence, Merlin returns brighter than ever in the arms of Paul (Francois-Eric Gendron). How about this novel?
Elizabeth Margon: Marilyn met Paul at the supermarket. Her credit card wasn’t working, so Paul helped her out. They exchanged phone numbers and saw each other two or even three months before their story was revealed on screen.
At first, Gary (Alban Omard) isn’t too thrilled with the idea that his mother has found love again, but ends up seducing Paul soon after…
The fact that Paul has a hotel in Morocco makes Gary very happy. As he runs the camp, she wants to give him some advice. Therefore, he will settle down and come to Morocco with them. But Marilyn frees him to live in peace. He adores his son, but is tired of washing him and correcting his nonsense. It is time for him to cut the cord.
In order to get some distance from her son, but also to fully pursue her history with Paul, Marilyn leaves Montpellier for good and settles in Morocco. Was there a desire on your part to leave the series?
It wasn’t the production that asked me to leave, it was me. I went because I live near Paimpol in Brittany and Un si grand soleil is filmed in Montpellier. I traveled for ten hours, sometimes for a stage and five lines, which was frankly exhausting. IThey understood very well. Besides, I was given a very beautiful, completely unexpected ending by a handsome groom (laughs).
So are you happy with the outing you booked for Marilyn?
Oh, yes, yes, great! They told me “We will give you a dazzling finale“And they didn’t lie (laughs).
You filmed in Morocco for the purposes of this plot. How did that shoot outside Montpellier studios go?
It was very pleasant. We were in a beautiful place. You will see, there are very beautiful landscapes. Basically, it is a kitesurfing place. You will see, as we say in Brittany, “You don’t smell the perfume“, we are very airy (laughs).
What made the work difficult for the sound operator, especially since it was still necessary to play love sketches in the terrible wind. We still enjoyed the place and laughed a lot. VSIt was a very pleasant experience.
It was about Your last shooting scenes?
I shot some scenes in Montpellier, but Marilyn’s farewell is in Dhaka. That said, production left the door open for Marilyn to return. Let’s see how the series will develop.
I imagine your last day of filming was emotional?
My last scene with Alban Omar (Gary’s translator, editor’s note) was very exciting. We were in trouble. We were really crying because we had been playing together for four years. We get along very well. It was brilliant at the counter. He helped me through the sand and the wind. He is an absolutely great guy. An amazing actor and then a really great person in life.
I loved the others too. All roommates, my little Jennifer Dubourg (Davia’s translator, editor’s note), Malik Elakhal El Miliani (Bilal), Folco Marchi (Ludo)… It was great touring with them. We were definitely a group that got along well. It was easy. Never one word above another. And then, heart was in everything we did.
Do you know what will happen to the neighbor when Marilyn leaves?
I think it will disappear, but you have to ask the authors. It would be great if Gary started a gaming club (laughs).
Is there a particular memory or plot that sticks out for you?
I loved every Christmas we celebrated with my roommate. In the end, I enjoyed shooting a lot of things and I really liked this character. I must say that I put a lot of myself into it (laughs). I definitely became that baby boomer, seventy-eight. I really enjoyed doing everything.
Do you have other projects besides Un si grand soleil?
I’m going to shoot in Benoit Cohen’s movie called Ma France. He wrote a book called Mohammad, my mother and me. It’s a true story. I am going to play the role of Fani Ardan’s girlfriend.
