Zac Efron seemed to have it all: world famous, an impeccable face and the Disney’s most charismatic smile. But behind the shine of “High School Musical”, the phenomenon that turned him into a global idol, the actor was fighting a silent and devastating battle against alcohol and drug addiction.
“I drank a lot. Too much,” the actor confessed in an interview The Hollywood journalist in 2014. “And yes, there were drugs too. When you’re in your early twenties, single and living in Hollywood… everything is available to you,” he added.
Fame, pressure and lack of control
Born in California, Zac Efron grew up in a middle-class family and began acting as a teenager. His life changed in 2006, when he was chosen to live Troy Boltonthe protagonist of Disney Channel’s “High School Musical” trilogy. Suddenly he was the face of a generation… magazine covers, tours, crowds chanting his name!
