Moto3: Home silver, Joel Kelso wins pole at Phillip Island


The Australian overtakes champion José Antonio Rueda in the final seconds and takes the lead in front of the home crowd




Friday evening (17th), the Moto3 classification at Phillip Island was characterized by strong emotions and the recognition of a local talent. Australian Joel Kelso secured pole position in front of his home crowd by recording the fastest time in the final moments of Q2: 1:34.056.

How was the ranking?

Matteo Bertelle, Nicola Carraro, Marco Morelli and Cormac Buchanan were the four fastest in Q1 and moved on to the second part of the standings, Q2.

Before that, Spaniard José Antonio Rueda, already crowned champion of the season, had clocked a time of 1:34.147, which seemed good enough to secure first place on the grid. However, with just seconds left in the session, Kelso overtook the leader and lifted the crowd with a perfect lap.
