Below are spoilers for the Better Call Saul series finale “Saul Gone”, so read at your own risk.
This week marked the end of an era, because You better call Saul signed after six seasons, effectively closing the book on breaking Bad universe in the process. Soon, the saul The end of the series gave all the feelings. and served as a worthy conclusion to AMC’s acclaimed franchise. The latest episodes took place mainly during theBed and breakfast timeline, where Saul Goodman went under the pseudonym of Gene Takavic. The episodes were presented in particular in black and white although, curiously, there were a handful of colorful moments. Now, series co-creator Peter Gould has shed some light on the significance of these artistic embellishments.
The scenes involving Gene were rendered black and white from the 2015 pilot. But as Peter Gould recently recalled, the prologue to this episode brought out some color through Saul commercials that Gene solemnly watched. in his living room. In more recent episodes, there have been a few other instances where the color has popped up. One was when Gene’s past life was discovered by Marion by Carol Burnett (who likes the Internet) . The other takes place during one of the last moments of the show, in which Saul, who calls himself Jimmy McGill again, shares another cigarette with his ex-wife Kim Wexler, who visits him in prison. .
As with everything in the beautifully crafted show, there’s a reason for those quick pops of color. Peter Gould explained Variety that the moments connect to two main aspects of the main character’s life: his past passion for Saul Goodman’s personality and his love for Kim Wexler:
It started in the “Better Call Saul” pilot. Gene looks at his old ads and they reflect in color. The way I read it is where his passion lies, his longing for the man he was. Nostalgia for him for Saul, not for Jimmy. It’s a call and he rubs his face a little when he sees those reflections in episode 12. In episode 13, it’s different. I’m glad you saw it, we made it very soft, the color of the flame and the cigarette. I wanted to make sure everyone watched Bob and Rhea’s wonderful performances and didn’t get distracted by technical gimmicks. It’s more like it’s the only color in the world about him, his relationship with Kim. He is the only person who sees him as he is and as he was. Each use of color is slightly different. It was nice.
Both were certainly great hits, especially the one with Jimmy and Kim. Not only was the color well placed in the scene, but the encounter between the two former flames (no pun intended) served as a reminder of the first episode. In my humble opinion, this is one of the best moments shared by all characters from breaking Bad This is You better call Saul .
Such visual cues and thoughtful storytelling are why so many people (like me) are eager to see more of the fictional universe. the teacher himself, Vince Gilligan talked about the possibility of further spin-offs And even if he likes the idea, he’s not really planning on returning to the world of sleazy lawyers and dangerous drug dealers. Hey, but never say never, right?
Although it can never be traced, it is satisfying to know You better call Saul it ended things with a flourish, thanks to the efforts of Peter Gould and company. I think most would agree that the show and its predecessor were bright spots in a lot of people’s lives. And it’s a poetic thought when you consider the flashes of color that inhabited Gene Takavic’s dark black and white existence.
Despite You better call Saul it’s over, you can stream the first five seasons with a netflix subscription , and the sixth and final season will likely join them at some point. Plus, those looking for another small-screen obsession to fill the void can visit Gossipify’s TV program 2022 .
