The Brazilian film “Caramelo” has arrived in the Netflix catalogue, an original production on the platform starring the actor Rafael Vitti.
With the aim of giving an authentically national identity to the genre, Netflix chose a caramel-coloured dog, a true Brazilian symbol, as its protagonist. The term “caramel” is commonly used to refer to dogs of undefined breed (the famous mongrels) which tend to have yellowish or golden fur.
In the plot, a chef (Vitti) who discovers he has a serious illness ends up forming a strong friendship with a caramel-colored dog.

Memories of Another Life (1995)

Always by Your Side (2009)

In 1987, the film “The Story of Hachiko” was released in Japan, which tells the true story of the faithful Akita dog who gives the film its name. In 2009, the American adaptation “Semper ao Seu Lado” was released, starring Richard Gere and directed by Swede Lasse Hallström.
In the plot, a university professor (Gere) finds an Akita puppy in a train station and creates a strong bond with him. The dog begins to accompany him to the station every day and always waits for his return, even when an unexpected event changes everything.

Benji (2018)

One of the most famous dogs in cinema is little Benji, who made his first film in 1974 and subsequently numerous other sequels.
In 2018, the eponymous remake of the first film was released, which follows the intelligent and courageous stray who befriends two brothers who live with their single mother. However, when the children are kidnapped, Benji embarks on a courageous mission to rescue them.
An Almost Perfect Duo (1989)

The comedy “Almost Perfect Duo” simply combines dog films with the cop genre and features Tom Hanks in the lead role.
In the plot, a meticulous detective (Tom Hanks) finds his life turned upside down when he has to take care of a large, messy dog who is the only witness to a crime.
White Fang (1991)

In this drama and adventure film, the canine protagonist is, in fact, a wolfdog. “White Fang” is based on the novel by Jack London and stars the young actor Ethan Hawke.
