Good and bad for Ahsoka fans. The Star Wars series stars former Jedi Padawan Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), played by Rosario Dawson. This popular character from the popular franchise’s expanded universe has already appeared in animated series such as The Clone Wars and Rebels, as well as in the TV series. alive The Mandalorian.
The first season of the show aired in 2023 and it was many months before season 2 was officially announced by Disney+. Ultimately, three years will separate Ashoka Season 1 and Season 2, which is expected on the platform in 2026 (the exact date has yet to be announced).
Ahsoka Season 2 heralds a shift in Disney’s strategy
The long-awaited new season will be based on a smaller budget than the first. Speaking at Edinburgh Comic-Con last weekend, Rosario Dawson announced the budget cuts without elaborating.
As a reminder, the production of Ahsoka Season 1 cost about 100 million dollars, which is a very large amount, but still lower than the budget of other Star Wars series such as The Mandalorian (about 120 million per season), The Acolyte (180 million) and Andor (250 million).
This drop in costs seems to indicate a change in Disney’s strategy. After many setbacks, the studio’s priority seems to be quality over quantity. This explains the absence of any Star Wars production on Disney+ in 2025 (aside from a few animated series) and the suspension of many expansion projects for the saga.
What do we know about season two?
The American actor also took advantage of his time in Scotland to announce the end of Season 2 filming and confirm the return of Hayden Christensen to the series, with whom he filmed at least one scene (which may only be in the form of a flashback or vision, since Anakin’s character is supposedly dead).
Only one character in the series will be changing actors in Season 2: ex-Jedi Beilan Skol is now played by Rory McCann ( Game of Thrones ), who will briefly replace the late Ray Stevenson. The show’s big bad guy – Grand Admiral Thrawn – will once again be voiced by Lars Mikkelsen, who has already voiced the animated series.
Season 2 of Ahsoka can be seen next year exclusively on Disney+.
