The Liverpool quartet unearth ‘Take 3’ from the classic Help! before the release of the new volume on November 21st

You Beatles anticipated the launch of Anthology 4 by revealing an unreleased version of “I’ve Just Seen a Face”, classic by Help!.

Recorded in the studio Abbey Road (Studio Two) on June 14, 1965 — just over 60 years ago — this previously unreleased recording captures the vibrant third take that the Beatles recorded the track in the studio. In total, the quartet recorded six takes of the song, the last being the basis for the version that ended up on the album. Help!.

I’ve Just Seen a Face (Take 3)” begins with the raw audio of the Beatles in the studio, with John Lennon joking that “Lonnie” — presumably the Scottish skiffle singer Lonnie Doneganwhich influenced the band — “you’ll regret not singing this one”, before making a mistake in his own entrance at the beginning of the song.

Scheduled to come out on November 21st, Anthology 4 brings together 36 tracks, including 13 takes and unreleased demos. The release will be accompanied by an expanded and restored version of the documentary Anthology of the Beatlesnow in nine parts, which premieres on November 26th on Disney+.

In addition to the newly discovered “I’ve Just Seen a Face (Take 3)”, Anthology 4 also features new versions of “In My Life”, “Nowhere Man”, “If I Fell”, a never released rehearsal of the performance of “All You Need Is Love” for the BBC and new 2025 mixes for the tracks “Free as a Bird” and “Real Love”, originally released in the 1990s.

The four volumes of Anthology will also be brought together in a complete collection — a box set with 12 LPs on 180-gram vinyl and another with 8 CDs — by Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMGin addition to digital versions.
