Such a Big Sun: Series creator ‘didn’t know what to do with character’… Stephan Montpet reacts to Elliott’s death and discusses reasons for his departure

This is the chapter that closes in Un si grand soleil!

On Friday, October 24, the writers of Un si grand soleil created a surprise by killing off Eliot (Stephane Montpetit). The ending is as unexpected as it is surprising for this character, who has delighted the faithful of the series for more than 7 years.

Stéphane Montpet talks about his reasons for leaving Un si grand soleil

This is in an exclusive interview given to our colleagues Recreational television that Stephen Montpety, Eliot’s interpreter, spoke of the reasons for his departure.

When I first left, I talked to the production about it. They totally understood. They let Elliot escape,” he confides before continuing, “there is Olivier Schulzinger who called me a little over a year ago and said that he was very happy with my work, but that he was going to finish the character of Elliot because he didn’t know what else to do with the character. Production had the grace to let me know months before I was fired. So I prepared myself and I am very grateful for that. I understand perfectly. And I understand that Eliot’s extremes should not be normalized, deep down“.

A difficult decision that caused the actor some fears and many questions.

He explains: “There inevitably comes a point when we tell ourselves we weren’t good enough. Definitely. The place where the actor tells himself it’s his fault. To be honest, the thought crossed my mind. Then reason prevails. When Olivier tells me that he doesn’t know what to do with the character anymore, I know that somewhere I have expressed this to myself. Then, after making the announcement, we move on to more substantive issues. We start making calculations. “Am I going to get through this? How long do I have the breakouts? Well, it’s going to be a job, so it’s all good.” I understand that such a bright sun was a springboard for me. I was able to play this incredible character of Elliott, a protean, sophisticated and complex role. And I learned the craft“.

“I’m very calm, calm”

If it’s heartbreaking for the audience to see this character go, Stéphane Montpet claims he’s very calm about leaving Un si grand soleil.

I played in USGS for a long time. It’s time to start a new chapter without denying what came before. It comes at the right time. If I had to do it again, I would do it blindfolded. I regret absolutely nothing. When we are inside, we no longer realize how precious it is. Leaving allows me to realize this. I am very calm, calm– he concludes.
