A 33-year-old Brazilian woman was the victim of femicide in the town of Castelnuovo del Garda, near Verona, Italy. Jéssica Stapazzolo Custodio de Lima was stabbed to death by her partner, 41, who confessed to the crime after being captured by the police.

According to the news agency Continuous cyclethe victim’s friends called the police, as they had not heard from him since last Saturday 25th, as he did not respond to messages or answer calls. Arriving at the apartment where she lived with the suspect on the morning of Tuesday 28th, the police found the body with multiple stab wounds.
Jéssica had already reported Douglas Reis Pedroso, also Brazilian, on other occasions for domestic violence. Close sources also reported that the victim lost custody of her son from another relationship due to the violent situation at home.
The suspect was arrested by the Peschiera del Garda Company after calling the police around midnight, expressing his intention to take his own life. Officers managed to locate him and arrest him at a different address from the one where the body was discovered.
Reis Pedroso confessed to the crime during interrogation, stating that he killed the victim with “a still unspecified number of stab wounds”. The knife allegedly used was found inside his car. The police are investigating the circumstances of the crime, while the medical examiner tries to determine the exact date and time of death.
Known to the police
The Brazilian had already been convicted for refusing to take a breathalyzer, according to the Verona Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities point out that he appears to be an excessive user of alcohol and drugs.
He is also accused of mistreatment and intentional bodily harm against Jéssica, committed between August 2024 and April 2025. Pedroso was also accused of sexual violence against his partner’s sister in December 2024. On that occasion he allegedly resisted and threatened the police officers who intervened and his preventive arrest was requested.
In April, the Brazilian was arrested during preliminary investigations and was placed under precautionary measures for attacking Jéssica. He threw her to the ground, dragged her by her hair onto the asphalt and punched her in the face. The suspect then struck her repeatedly with the car keys.
