Dragon House on OCS: This huge nod to Game of Thrones

Warning, spoilers. It is recommended that you watch the first episode of Dragon House before you continue reading this article.

The long-awaited first spin-off Game of Thrones It finally began airing on France’s OCS with the release of its inaugural episode. And this first chapter of House of Dragons, which tells the beginnings of the fall of the Targaryen family, was rich with revelations.

Game of Thrones fans had a special right to know the title of the literary saga. George RR Martin Titled “A Song of Ice and Fire” in the original version. Thus, the origin of this famous song is a prophecy explained by King Visser I (Paddy Considine) to his daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock) at the end of the first episode of House of Dragons.

Targaryen history is made up of prophecies and prophetic dreams, some of which have high stakes. Their ancestor Aegon the Conqueror not only wanted to take over Westeros and rule the Seven Kingdoms for power, but because he had an important vision. He saw “The End of Men” :

“It will begin with a terrible winter that will come from the far north. Aegon saw the darkness that the winds carry. What lies in that darkness will destroy the world of the living. When that winter comes, all of Westeros must rise against it. .

For a man to survive, there must be a Targaryen on the Iron Throne. A king or queen can unite the kingdom against cold and darkness. This dream is a song of ice and fire. It is a secret passed from king to heir after Aegon.

So Aegon had a vision of the White Walkers threat hundreds of years before the cataclysmic event we see in Game of Thrones. And Robert Baratheon’s rebellion and his seizure of the Iron Throne broke the Targaryen chain of rule. Since Daenerys and her brother Viserys were only children at the time, they did not learn of this prophecy.

Game of Thrones has proven that the Targaryen return to Westeros and its dragons are crucial in the fight against the White Walkers. But also involved is another Targaryen named Aegon (Jon Snow’s real name) who was involved in rescuing the men.

This first episode of House of Dragons adds another dimension to A Song of Ice and Fire, which fans also saw as a Stark and Targaryen reunion in the form of Jon Snow, son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen. The latter also saw it in his son “The Prince That Was Promised, A Song of Ice and Fire”.

And the song’s explanation was confirmed by George Martin, as confirmed by co-showrunner Ryan Condall. polygon : “The origin of this prophecy comes from. He told us at the beginning of the process, he just casually mentioned that Aegon the Conqueror was a dreamer who saw white walkers coming through the wall and washing the earth with cold and cold. Dark. So with his permission, of course we We incorporated it into the story because it was a great way to resonate with the original series.”

By the way, when telling this prophecy to Rhaenyra, King Visser I is holding a Valyrian steel dagger. And this dagger isn’t just any dagger, as it appears in Game of Thrones! This weapon, which belonged to the Targaryen family, nearly killed Bran Stark during an assassination attempt in the first season, and ended up in the possession of Lord Baelish, who then gave it to Bran years later.

But the latter preferred to give it to Arya Stark, and it was with this dagger that the young Stark killed Lord Bailey, but also the Night King, the leader of the White Walkers, in the last season. Game of Thrones fans can expect more information and more mysteries to be revealed in the House of Dragons after this major reveal in the spin-off’s first episode.
