After Warner announced the postponement of the premiere of “Shazam! Fury of the Gods,” director David F. Sandberg posted a social media post pointing out what was behind the change.

The studio had “leaked” to the American press that the date change was the fault of “Aquaman and the Last Kingdom”, which would have to go through a longer period of filming. With this, the sequel to “Shazam!” it was delayed to occupy the date previously reserved for that publication, which was also delayed.

But Sandberg pointed out that the real culprit was another movie: “Avatar 2”.

It’s just that “Shazam! Wrath of the Gods” will premiere the same week as the long-awaited sequel to the 2009 James Cameron film.

Along with a video of the post-production work, Sandberg wrote: “Do the final mix on ‘Shazam! Rage of the Gods’. The new release date is March 17th next year. ‘Avatar 2’ could be December. , we can have IMAX screens. That will be great. But Cameron now definitely owes me a 4K version of “The Abyss”.

The director of the sequel to “Shazam!” (2019) previously joked about the duel with “Avatar 2”. In March, when Warner announced that the film would be showing in December, she wrote on social media: “Let’s face ‘Avatar 2’. Poor James Cameron must be shaking in fear right now.” Despite the joking tone, Sandberg did not hide a background of seriousness, in the face of the enormous challenge that he would have to face.

He must have been the first to approve the postponement.
